Just a Little something for Tea

I needed something to carry tea bags in so I made a little tea wallet. It has 4 pockets 2 for tea and the top 2 for sweetener. ( I don't use sugar) I used some scraps I had, the thread was on the bobbin, an old button, and a pony tail band. I found in a bathroom drawer. If I make any for gifts I will get some thinner pony tail bands it was hard to sew over the thick one. It is only 3 1/2" by 4".
It's a wonderful day the sun is shining and not much wind. I didn't do much sewing the last 2 days. Not motivating well. I did finish a good book yesterday. It's not the same as sewing. I feel it's not a good day if I don't sew. Making things gives me great pleasure.( the little things that make use happy)

Sat. and Sat. Night

This was my project for Sat. I finished it about 10:00 P.M. Sat. night I made it from 3 Dis. 9 patch blocks. A friend of mine(Maxine) gave me some thin batting so I could finish it.
I decided to try some free hand feathers and other quilting on it. It's not the best but I will get better.
It was so nice here the last 2 days. It makes me want Spring all the more.
I have been thinking about gardens, mushroom hunting, and all the pretty spring flowers. It can't get here any to soon for me.
I haven't got much done this last week because of my back . It is getting better. Just not as fast as I would like it to.

Projects for Today

This is a heart shaped yo-yo. I found the pattern on the internet. I should have made my heart a little bigger. I just used a scrap I had by the sewing machine. It's just one of those fun things to make.
This is Needle keeper I found on the internet. (free pattern) It came from Pattern Bee the address is www.patternbee.com go to free stuff and you will find it.
I made some changes when I made this one. I did mine by machine and I put thin cardboard in the middle of the front and back and added a button to the front. This would be a fun hand project but if I can try it on the sewing machine I am going to. It makes it a fast sample.

This is a hotpad I made for a swap a while back. I think it gets the point across, that I want to make very well.

It's very cold out. It was -9 when I got up and it's only going to get around 7 or 8 above today. Where is Spring?

No Raw Edge Pillowcase

This is the instructions for the pillowcase if you click on it , it will enlarge.

I made this pillowcase last night as a sample. I did iron it but then had it folded. The camera shows every little wrinkle. (Now I know why I don't like any one taking my photo!)
I have made a lot of these for Bright Horizons in O'Neil . They realy like them . They give them to kids when they come in. That way they have their own pillow . It also gives them ownership of something.
This is a fast and fun porject I have also made these for my Grandkids, they love them.
It's fun to make these for holidays also.

Burrrrrrr. Row Robin Blocks

These are my butterfly blocks for Jennies' Row Robin. I have a 6" block in my valance in my sewing room with a butterfly I did for a Aunt Gracie's swap years ago. I no longer have the book. So I took some paper and cut a butterfly that sort of looks like the smaller one. I button hole stitched around them in pink. It's Jennies' favorite color. Now they are off to the next person in the R.R. swap.
This is Jennies' Row Robin blocks I just love the emb. blocks.
I went out to get my camera out of the pickup where it fell out of my bag. Wouldn't you know, I locked myself out . Don locks the place up like FT. Knox I unlocked the dead bolt but not the door knob well here I am out in the cold in my PJ's, cold with the wind blowing, beating on the door. You know Don can not hear, so I was getting a little cold by the time he let me in.
I mean to tell you it's Coldddddddddd, out there this morning!

Poem,Acid, and Human Body Part

Good cold Monday morning!
This is my 3 group challenge. I am in 3 groups where they put up a challenge word for the month. So I gave myself a challenge. To do 1 quilt for all 3. In one group the word was poem you could use or wright a poem. So I made one up. I am not going to win any wrighting contest. But it made me happy! The next group had the word acid. Well lots of things come to mind for me as a child of the 60's. Acid trip, acid dream, acid green, acid rain.
I took acid green and acid dream.
The other group we had to have a body part on the quilt.
I had this great bug fabric, (I thought I would never use) I typed out the poem on velum with bright colored lips on it and used acid green (one of my favotire colors) for the body, quilting and the edge of the quilt.
For family and friends not to worry I have not been on any acid trips or dreams, but I do dream in color!
This was a fun project!
Acid Dream
My sleep is alive with colors so true
All shiny and bright in their hue
Only in my dreams can they come through

Disappearing 9 patch

Here is how it looks befor and after. I all so changed the light and dark around to see what it would be like. I have just 3 of these blocks so I think it's going to be a table runner.

Sunday morning

To the right is my disappearing 9 patch quilt.

You start with a 9 patch block with each block, being 41/2" to 5" each. With 5 lights and 4 darks. Then you cut it in 1/2 both ways and sew it back together.

I put this together in about 2 hours .

I used 9 blocks as that is what fabric I had from other projects. (use what you have)

It was a fast and fun project.

I turned the center row in this layout.

It's very cold today!

That makes it a good day to stay inside and sew!

This Sat. I went to the Quilters Candy Shop and got 24 other quilters little bags with fabric.

We are having a "Your Fabric My Block" exchange. This is my block my fabric for this exchange. Can you tell I like green?

We will have untill next Jan. To finish everyones blocks.

When we all get together next Jan. to give every one back their blocks we will play with settings and look at all of them. It sounds like fun to me!

Whats new today

This is the 1st of a 12 month block of the month for my Orchard quilt group. Jennie thought we needed one. She gave use the Churn Dash pattern and the flower pattern and said do it any way we liked. I am going to sew my design on in green verigated thread by machine. Some will hand embro., some machine appliqe', and some will do hand appliqe". I will have to do a 13th block as I want to set it on point.I think I will set it with 3" sashings and cornerstones.

Here at home Jennie and Kristin are going to CO. to check out a Collage this week end.I hope she finds one she likes. The 1st year is all ways the hardest for kids and moms.

Friday's work

This is the 1st of 12 blocks from Quilters Candy Shop in O'Neill. It is there just-a-buck block witch is 8". (the expanded version @ $2.50 16" block) useing the Thangles to make your half square triangle. I am happy to say they work well.

The colores are a lot brighter than they show up here.

As all ways it need a good press but I have a year to get to that.

I didn't get much sewing done yesterday. I worked at the museum in the afternoon and they took Brad the bible winter camp for the week end. We missed our turn and had to go back about 15 miles. (It's hard to see in the dark where to turn) It was our little adventure of the night. Sara came home and spent the night with me. She was a sleep most of the way home. It's about an 80 mile trip to the camp.
