Graduation and My Sewing and Trading

Hi! I have been working on the embroidery for my DGD's Graduation quilt. I have all the wording done now to figure out how I want to set it all together. I don't have much time left she is graduating the 10th of May.
The wind is blowing as it all ways dose here. If only we could have a nice warm day with out the wind. I took a play day and worked on a trade for one of my on line groups.
It's called Put It In Your Purse Swap
We had to have 5 things for this .
1. gum or candy that won't melt.- Chiclets because I love them as a kid.
2. An item for organizing.- A check book cover or planer cover and a pen so you never have to look for ya pen to wright a check or marking things in your planer.
3. An Item good for comfort.- And Kleenex for comfort and the little needs we all have.
4. A pen.- 2
5. A notepad.- I covered the notepad so they could tack notes in style and a pen so they didn't have to take the one from the check book. I put a elastic band on the notepad to keep it closed and neat in a purse.
Well I got them all done and ready to mail in the morning.

Snow day and Sewing.

The weather was not nice today so I played in the sewing room. I Did the potholders, coasters, thumb pincushion and 2- 1/4 yd. cuts of fabric for a trade I have to mail out soon.
I really like the print fabric I used. I enjoyed working with my embroidery machine. I had made some of these little quiltlets for my QG's action and my DD Jennie and her friend Dawn really liked them, so I made them each one . You know the pink one is for Jennie.
Dawn was biding on one like this and it went to high for her. One good thing I know she will like the color.

Is it Spring?

This is what we have today. It rained most of the night and the this morning about 8:30 it started to snow. So now it's very slick with Ice on the highway. You can only see about 1/4 of a mile. The only ones that are happy about it are DD Jennie and Teddy. Jennie is happy because she gets to stay home today.
Teddy just loves to play in the snow. After his little romp in the snow he looked like a big snow ball. He had snow everywhere before I could catch him and dry him off.

It's a good day to stay in and sew.

A Little Gift For a Very Nice Lady

I did this Journal for a Friend that is in my quilt gild. She is a very kind and giving person. As you can see her name is Anna. She quilted our raffle quilt this year. It turned out very nice. Her favorite color is blue. I had a very hard time finding blue anything in my sewing room. Someone sent me this print. I am glad to say.
She saw one at our action and was biding on it but it went to high. I think I will put it in the mail. It will make a nice surprise.

It's a Dog's Life

I made birthday blocks for a swap I am in this afternoon. The green frog one is for a lady that likes lime green , friendship quilt blocks, and frogs. I think this will work!
The one with bees is for a lady that said anything as long as it was not pink.
DD Jennie was here at noon and had to try the party hat on Teddy. (who use to be called Joey) He didn't like his name. He would not come to it so I started calling him Teddy and he seems to like it. he comes to it when I call him.
Another windy day.

LQG Action

Today was almost perfect weather. The dog and I set in the swing and took some sun. We both got bored so we came back inside and I started a mini quilt 5"x7" for a trade." What you see out your window". I don't think I like what I have done. It looked better in my mind. I will have to sleep on it.

I went to the aria High School art show today in Neligh. I wish I was as good as the kids. So much talent. DGD Kristin and DGS Josh both got ribbons.
We Had are annual quilt action to raise money for our programs and charity quilts. I think fun was had by all. I donated little things and DD Jennifer donated a wall hanging. All together our things brought $103.oo plus the $5.oo I spent for a water bottle carrier. I think it's nice you can take your water and it frees up your hands.

Row Robin and WIND!

The wind is blowing so hard today you can hardly stand up . The temp. is better but it still feels cold with all the wind.

I am doing a row robin in one of my on line groups. My row is the one on the bottom. Now that I see it I think I would have done some of the blocks different. I do think the pink and black makes a striking quilt.
I am not a pink kind of person and have a hard time coming up with pink to put in a quilt. It all most all ways calls for a trip to the quilt shop. As if I need a excuse to go to a quilt shop.

Rain and Just a Little Sewing

It's another rainy day. I know we need the rain but wish it could do it at night.

Just had time to do my 2 lotto blocks for Stash Builders yahoo group's monthly lotto.
I have to go the the Museum to work today. So It's a short sewing day. I did work on a binding of a throw for DD Jennifer last night. Maybe I can get some more sewing in tonight?

House Work!

I hate house work. Not because it's work because it takes my time. It never stays done. So you never enjoy the results for long. Not like quilting and making things. You make something and you have it to enjoy. You do the dish's and someone is making more dirty dish's before you can survey your well done work. Laundry you fold, hang and put away but it keeps piling up to do over again. Quilt ,wall hanging and the like you can stake up and they stay until you want to show them off. they don't have to be washed over again.

So do you know what I did today? Then some one comes home and ask what did you do all day?
House work is not a gratifying job. Besides it interferes with my quilting and other interest.

Just a Little Play Time.

The quilt meeting went just fine. Jane brought use all a gift from a quilt shop in New Mexico.

I had some time to play this morning so I did my Challenge in one of my yahoo groups. The word was Birds. I used some of my reject spray dye fabric and did this bird.
The fabric looked like a Spring early morning to me. I used variegated thread in the same colors and stitched the bird free motion. The tree tops is a zig zag stitched in circles. The birds body is kind of funny but I never said I can draw. I like the colors and had a good time playing.

I think we all need more play time.

Kristin's Prom

DS Kelsey And GF and some of the grand kids are coming for dinner today. Yep we are having fried chicken again. That's what they all ways ask for.

It was DGD Kristin's prom last night. All the girls and boys looked so nice. I loved the color of Kristin's dress. It is a very soft green . It dose not show the color so well in this photo. It was dark in the school gym. Sara and I fixed flowers for her wrist corsage.
Yes that's me with Sara. My eyes look crossed (but they really aren't)

Fabric dyeing and rejects

I tried some spray fabric dye I got on sale 2 years ago this is what I got it's for a trade in one of my groups. You can't tell but I put a permanent glitter finish on it. It's a very fine glitter.
I am not as happy as I would like with the results but it dose look better in person.
These are my rejects for one reason or another. I wish it would warm up so I could do some dyeing and fabric painting outside. I had to do mine in the garage and it's not the best place to work on things.

party hats

It is a nasty day out. We were woke up at 3:30 this morning with a call from a friend that was going to work in Norfolk. He said Don's sister was in the ditch about 2 miles from use. So Don went to help her. Well needless to say no one here got much sleep. I went back to bed about
6:00 0until 7:30. The roads were very bad this morning. The traffic on the hwy. was moving very slow today. Things look better now. Things are starting to melt. I do hope this is the last of this weather!

In one of my trade groups they have a one on one trade for party hats. Late last night I made this one to see what it would look like. Now that I have made one I would like to do it different. I may have to make another one. We also have to put 3 small things in it sort of like a May basket.

Snow Blaaaaaa!

I hope this is short lived. I am ready for warmer weather! These were taken out my front door about 8:00P.M. this evening.

Well I guess winter has to give use what for one more time before it will leave us for good.
The photo dose not show the snow blowing and coming down.
My poor flowers are freezing .

New blocks for BOM for Orchad group

It hasn't snowed yet they keep saying snow on the news. It's time to stop that stuff and get warm! My flowers are blooming. But they don't even look as good as usual.

I got my last months block and this months block done for the Orchard group.
I love the fabric I used for the back ground It has a lot more color than it looks in the photos.
I only have 9 more to go . I plain on setting the blocks on point.

More Action Stuff

I had to take Don to the Dentist today. He needs a root canal or get the tooth pulled. He is not happy. Just makes the grumpy old F. grumpier.
I made these for my Quilt Gild action They are 8"x8" Just little quiltlets.
I feel we always need some small things that don't cost a lot.

Swap Your Stash

As you see I have been at it . This is one of my swaps called Swap Your Stash. I am one of eight. Each month one of the group sends the rest of us Stuff from their stash. Yes It's a challenge! I made my self a journal cover with this months stash. I know it's on it's side. Just tip your head to the left for a better view.
The back is not as interesting but you have to tip your head to the right on this view.
It was all vintage fabrics and trim this time. I also made one like it for the stash provider.

Heart, Hands, and Soul

I made this for a auction at the Norfolk Quilt Gild this month. I think it's a fitting saying for quilters. I machine embroidered the saying and then free motioned the quilting on it. It's all ways a nice night with a lot of quilters and friends.

Here's Joey

I want you to meet Joey. He is a scrap dog. If I have any thing down where he can get it he's off with it. He pulls things out of the trash, boxes you name it he has it all over the floor. He loves my sewing room and all the things to play with. He's just a puppy!
He misses all his family. He had so many at home before. Now it's just me. So he will do anything for my attention. I think he is worse than any cat I have had.

Sat. Night Project: The Last of The Frog Skin!

My DGD Sara came to stay Friday Night. She said she came to stay with the puppy. So he could get used to it here and not be so lonely for his family. Sara hasn't been feeling good so we haven't done much together. She took a long nap today. She said she was feeling better this evening.
This is the back of my bookmarks.
As you can see I have used the scraps from the frog skin to make post cards, hot pad, and now bookmarks. Not to say any thing about my handsome Froggie! This was the last if the strip pieced quilted fabric from making my frog. I have a swap in TT's yahoo group for book marks for Spring. I think the greens look like the first greens of spring. The Willow trees all ways shows a yellow green first then the other greens start showing up.

Hot Pads, Pot Holders? What ever you call them.

I am in a pot holder swap with 4 others in my TT yahoo group. We trade different things such as the pot holders, book marks, pincushions, or what ever we come up with. The theme was Spring pot holders or hot pads which ever you prefer. I had some frog skin left so I made one out of it for a gift.

I think that's when I like pastels the most is in the Spring. The rest of the time I tend to go for bright and bold colors and fabric. Now I wish it would warm up a little. The wind is so bad today you don't want to be out in it.
Jennie left one of her puppy's to life with me his name is Joey. Now if he would just learn to go out side I would be real happy with him.
I will post a photo of him later.

Good, Bad, and Ugly!

There are some fabrics you just love but these are not 2 of them . The camera made them look better than they are. It's funny when I want a good photo I can't get one. I think I am going with the blue purple fabric. I really looks more gray and muddy than the photo makes it look. I am not a yellow person . It's hard to use much of it and I do have to live with what I make.

No Fooling Just Fun!

I went to my quilt meeting tonight in O'Neil. I showed them how to do the Disappearing 9 patch. We all had fun , laughed a lot. In general had a good time. All were so different from the next.
I found some ugly fabric for a challenge I think I am going to do in one of my on line groups. I really found 2 can't decide which is the ugliest! Maybe I will take a photo of both fabrics and see what everyone thinks? I got a spot cleaned out for my cutting table and its the only place clean in the room ! I have everything piled all over. It will be nice when I am cutting as it high enough for me to cut with out bending over. I have been cutting on the kitchen table and sitting when cutting . (not the best way to cut accurately). Now just to sort out every thing and find new spots for it! I know Don will be happy to have the kitchen table free, so he can pile more of his stuff on it.

Block of the Month

Well it's time to go get a new BOM from Quilters Candy Shop. So I got the March block done last night. I don't want to get behind. I found that the seams got a little thick and hard to sew on this one. Oh well it's for me and I don't care if it prefect. It's the 1st Tue. of the month and time for Material Girls Meeting in O'Neil. We are going to do the disappearing 9 patch tonight it should be fun to see what materials everyone picked for theirs.
Now to start on my sewing room. Don got my cutting table legs put on after 2 1/2 years. Now he wants me to get the room emptied in one day so he can finish it. (It took him 2 1/2 years to do a 4 hour project but I have a afternoon to get all my sewing sorted and moved out) It is his logic not mine! Maybe I should leave the table in the living room for 2 1/2 years? While I work on my sewing room.
