Afternoon of playing.

Yes another trade! This on is for Fabric Artist Traders one of the yahoo groups . It is my favorite group for trading. We were to make a Kitchen shrine or tribute for the trade. It could be anything as long as it fit in a 6"x 9" envelope. This is a smaller version of a small quiltlet I made for a challenge some time ago. I think it's way back in my blog? I have enjoyed it so much I thought it would be a good thing to share. The size is about 6" x 8" I found it a little harder to get the words fitted on the smaller ones.
I love this kitchen print and now all I have left is a few small scraps.
I think they will be nice on a small spot on the kitchen wall.
there isn't a top or bottom so they can hang them how ever they like.

Warmth

In my yahoo group Abstract artist. We have a word each month to use to make a 8" quiltlet. This months word was warmth. This was a experiment using a fabric sheet I made and printed a picture on it. I wanted to make it look warm, hazy and shimmering with heat. With all the cold weather it would be a welcome change! I sprayed it with water and used the iron on it to get the ink to bleed. It did but not the way I expected it to . You learn a lot from trying new things. So it's never a lose.
After I thought I was done I decided to add the stitching in the black border. I think it helped.
It's not what I saw in my mind but I learned a lot.

This is one I did a while back and this is what I really think of when you say warmth. Warm happy memories of my Grandma and her kitchen . Her warm Wood stove I got dressed behind and her love!
That's WARMTH!

I got mail!

Well guess what it's snowing again. We went to the casino yesterday afternoon and I came home with $4.15 more than I left with so I feel I am a big winner. It snowed all the way home. It's about 85 miles away so 2 hours to get home last night.
What a nice day for good mail. I received these coasters from Linda Mc. in my SGF yahoo group. Love the fabrics and note pads.
This is the $3.00 trade from Sue H. in the same group SGF. I love the heart pocket and will probably use it as a pattern for a gift idea some time. the chocolate was great for breakfast! I just love these little $3.00 trades they are fast and fun to make and receive.

SNOW!

Well I got up to about 6" of snow! Not my Idea of a good time.
We are to get more tonight. I hope they are wrong!

My Teddy loves to play in the snow. Then come in and leave snow all over.

He has his trails so he can check out the place. He is in and out all the time. You know he has to keep an eye on things!

Sunday

I finely felt like doing something. It's not very productive but it was fun. Some times you need a little play time. I did these ATC's for a trade in my Fabric Art traders yahoo group. It called "For the Birds".
They said you could do what ever you liked as long as it had to do with birds. Can you tell I am thinking Spring?

I made some fabric sheets and photo copied Feathers and the birds on them. It's hard to see that the back has the feathers on the label. I tried to do some feather quilting around the bird. I need some practice!! I called my cards Birds of a Feather.

Elly is saying the same. She sleeps most of the time. Bless her!

Still here

I received this from Dee in my Sew Good Friends yahoo group. She does very nice work. I love the fabrics she put together for the coasters. The bag is filled with bobbin bikinis. I think you just put them around your filled bobbins to keep them from unwinding. It keeps the threads secure. And she also sent me a FSL lavender book mark. What a nice package to get in my mail today.

I haven't be very productive this last week . I have been preoccupied with other things.
My Dear Friend Elly is still in the hospital and is the same. Just holding on.

$3.00 Swap done

Good morning! I have finally got the candy for the $3.00 Swap. I put it in a little bag I made out of a scrap of heart fabric I found in my stash. Ghirardelli chocolate squares 3 different kinds. I love that brand of candy. This will go out in the mail today. My friend Elly is still with us. She is not any better. They are keeping her comfortable. She still knew who I was when I went to see her yesterday afternoon.

My wild Sat. night.

I had these pieced but needed some cotton batting to finish them. When I was at my DD Jennie's I found a scrap of cotton batting to do them so I came home and after supper I quilted them and then I bound them while watching Sci Fi. They are for a trade. They said to thing spring and make 2 place mats. The butterfly fabric has a sparkle to it. The colors said Spring to me. So off they go in the mail Monday.

The last thing for the $3.00 swap.

I had just a little of the print left so I made a pin cushion with it. Now to find some great candy for the package! Yes I love my embroidery module on my sewing machine. It's just to much fun!

Another part of the $3.00 swap.

I made this little journal this morning for the $3.00 swap. It was the only Valentines fabric I could find in my stash. I know I have more but where? My Dear friend Elly is doing better this morning. Maybe the prayers are working?

Yes I am working on Valentines Day!

I embroidered these yesterday morning. I only need one for a $3.00 trade in my Sew Good Friends yahoo group. I love these little trades. They are fast and fun. This one is going to be for Valentines Day. We have to make 2 things and put candy in the package. And most of all not spend over $3.00 on it. I don't know witch one I am sending for the trade yet. When I get the other thing made I will decide.
When I use my 5x7 hoop I can fit more than one in a hooping so I make extras for little giftys.
Then come in very handy!
I haven't been very productive this week . A dear friend of mine is very ill and I think she is about to leave use. She is 84. Things just aren't working anymore. I am going to miss her and I am praying for a easy transition for her.

What I did this morning!

As you know we are in a big freeze here. It's only -0 out. Don decided to cut Teddy's hair again Just parts of it . Don has a thing about cutting on Teddy's hair. I think he does it to annoy me!So I decided to make Teddy a coat this morning. When I made the pattern it was way to big so I took 8" out of the middle back. Now it fits fair for the first try. I took measurements like the book said but they were just to big.
He likes waring it. the whole time I was sewing it (about a hour and a half) He sat in the sewing room and watched me work on it. The 1 1/2 hours was from the making of the pattern to the embroidery. Start to finish.

My poor dog looks like he got hit with a lawn mower with a dull blade.
He is the best and most loving little dog you could ask for.

At last I an finished!!

I finished the last 3 blocks of the your fabric my block trade. Now I can move on the other things that need finishing .
I did these yesterday before heading to Norfolk to my eye exam. What a afternoon that was. We got caught in a white out blizzard. You couldn't see more than a few feet in any direction. We had to sit it out at Don's granddaughters. When we headed home it was not bad and we had no trouble getting home. It made for a very stressful afternoon! There were a lot of car accidents and pile ups. I hope we have no more of that stuff. I hate winter!

Jane got this bag at the auction on Sat. for me she spent 300 of her Bob bucks on it. The photo doesn't do it justice. The colors are so pretty and it has gold metallic on the fabrics. Well I did get 2 more blocks done on Friday morning before I went with Jane. Only 3 more to go.
I hope to Finnish the last 3 Monday morning before I have to go to my eye exam.
I have to take care of a lady today so no sewing for me . I do have a jelly roll quilt to cut out . We are all doing the quilt as a group in O'Neil. I can take it along and hope to get it cut up and ready to sew.

I did the bindings while siting with a lady yesterday. It's like going a large quilt with lot's of corners.
I still have 9 yours & mine blocks to do.

3 more and counting

Not much sewing today. I am going to the quilt shop and do a few errands and then to a quilt meeting.
I did get these 3 done this morning.

Monday, January 5, 2009

Here's another 6 Yours mine

Here's six more of the blocks finished I am 1/2 way there with my block I have done. 12 more to go! I do have my block posted on the blog. You will have to go back aways to find it. I made it to see how the block would go together when we started this trade.I will not have as much time to sew tomorrow . I have a quilt meeting the 1st Tue. of the month in O'Neil at 7:00 PM. I like to go so I can get to the quilt shop before they close at 5:30. Then I have a $1.00 DCB at Mc Donald's. Big spender that I am!!
Huskerbabie no there is not a JC Penny's. Just a catalog order and pick up desk .
I don't think I would get in another trade with 25 blocks. 12 aren't bad but 25 go on for ever.

Yours - Mine

Here are the first 5 blocks of my trade at the Quilters Candy Store in O'Neil , Nebraska. There are 25 ladies in the trade.Your use their fabric and your block pattern and make one for everyone in the trade. Only 20 more to go!
It is interesting how they all turn out. I will be glad to get these done. We traded a year ago and will be giving them back in Feb. I have found I don't like trades that take that long . I like them to be shorter in time and get them done.

Candy tin trade

I have a new trade in one of my yahoo groups Fiber Art Traders. Decorated candy tins with a heart theme. I found some cookie tins(close enough) on sale in the Christmas clearance for 50 cents each. Altoids's are $2.00 or more so I went with cookie tins. The tins came with a large chocolate chip cookie in it. Don was more than happy to take the cookies off of my hands.I went into my card program and found a image I liked and made a fabric printer sheet out of W on W fabric and printed them off. I did some stitching around the hearts And layered the felt to give some dimension. I also lined the inside of the lid and tin.
